'Brown Bear' & 'Sea Lion' on the Groudle Glen Railway - 31/07/2024
On the east coast of the Isle of Man, a couple of miles north of Douglas, lies a tourist attraction like no other. The brainchild of nineteenth-century entrepreneur Richard Maltby Broadbent, this railway was constructed deep in the midsts of a wood to carry passengers not to a town or beach, but a zoo, built into the cliff face. @@MaximumPressureSteam Thanks Thomas! I wasn’t sure if that shot would work as I knew they would be stopping but I didn’t know quite where. Thankfully, it turned out very well. It’s a fantastic railway with bags of character. I don’t know too much about their future plans but based on discussions i’ve had with some staff members, I can say that 2026 should be a good year to visit. All the best. Cameron

I went to see her come through at Church Fenton and had my tripod laid on Platform 3. I hadn't noticed that she had been diverted onto Platform 1 until it was too late, and I unfortunately missed her powering through!

@@skydive7054 Thanks for commenting. 60007 has been outshopped in BR Blue livery, which depicts the class after the second world war, during which they lost their valences due to maintenance requirements. Hope this helps. Cameron
Splendid shots. What a beautiful loco she is! Sir Nigel Gresley (a human) found the best possible shape for a high-speed locomotive; just look at a modern one at 2:15 - all of them modern ones seem to be descendents of the famous Class A4.

A well constructed and nicely shot video of the railway. Lots of industrial engines the type, in fact, that used to run on that line many years ago. There didn't seem to be many passengers in the coaches that day.

A truly wonderful gala. Brings back childhood memories when I used to live in Harrogate with family, we used to visit this railway for Santa Special and Bonfire Night. The locomotives looks beautiful restored and in great working order. This has been fully enjoyable to watch :-)

Thanks for commenting! There are a couple of options. Either take the footpath by the barn from Low Lane, which will give you the view in that clip, or cross the footbridge to find the view at 8:30. You can also access both points from the footpath leading off the A59 nearby the lay-by at Holywell Bridge, but the stile can be tricky to spot amongst the vegetation. Hope this helps!
